Sheriff Eric J. Levett
Sheriff Eric J. Levett Bio Eric J. Levett is a lifelong resident of Rockdale County who graduated from Rockdale County High school in 1993. As a youth he was involved in the Rockdale County Explorer Program and gained a strong desire to be in law enforcement. As soon as he graduated from high school he was offered a job at the 911 center as a Police Dispatcher. He accepted the job and excelled.
Sheriff Levett has served the citizens of Rockdale County over 25 years with 15 years at the Sheriff’s Office and continues to challenge himself. He has worked as a Certified Peace Officer, a Law Enforcement Coordinator for the City of Conyers Housing Authority, and a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Deputy. Sheriff Levett has served on the Board of Directors - Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families, the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Rockdale Program, the National Sheriff’s Association, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the College Law Enforcement Advisory Board, as Vice Chairman of Georgia Piedmont Technical College, and so many more.
Sheriff Levett and his wife Lavette have been married 22 years and have two children; Christian and Colin. The Levett’s are active members of Springfield Baptist Church also in Conyers, Georgia. He has strong family ties, and along with being locally educated, he is deeply rooted in all the communities of Rockdale County.
In 2012, after gaining valid supervisory experience within the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, he achieved the ranks as Corporal, Sergeant, and also became a Supervisor of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office. He used his wealth of knowledge and vastly diverse experience in law enforcement, to become a beacon for a change and ran for public office as Sheriff for Rockdale County.
Upon winning the election as a 1st time candidate, Sheriff Levett was sworn in as the Rockdale County Sheriff by Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein, and initiated his tenure on January 1, 2013 until present.
Since taking office, Sheriff Levett has implemented several new programs for the inmates in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office, the citizens and community at large, and especially the youth of Rockdale County. Sheriff Eric J. Levett is one you can expect fervor, clear vision, compassion and budget consciousness because his priority is the citizens of his County. He is grateful for working with an amazing group of neighbors, friends, colleagues, County Officials, and strives for each person he encounters, to feel welcomed in a way that is now becoming customary to his entire office.
